B Division:
Stars do what has never been done before!
In Game 4 of the MBHL
2009 Fall League Championships, both teams
arrived early and showed determination to
win. Scott Bowman was the first to
score from a deflection off of the Jokers
defenseman that got past Olsen
with 2:30 left on the clock during the first
period. The Jokers did not falter
however as 30 seconds later they gained the
zone and cycled around the perimeter with
excellent passing from defensemen Nick Marzano and Tom Yurchak. Sean Sullivan
lifted a quick snapshot past goaltender Mike
Norwood to tie the game. The second
period saw back and forth action from both
teams but scoring chances were low. It
was not until the third period when Mike
Sandt fed Eric Witzel for a quick wrist shot
into the top corner of the net. The
Jokers could not answer back as Mike Sandt
scored two more goals along with Ed Baniak's
top shelf goal to ensure the win for the
Stars. The Stars tied the series 2 - 2
facing a game 5. No other team has
faced a two game deficit in the
championships to come back and win.
Game 5 of the 2009 B
Division Championships proved to be all that
was expected. The Stars came out first
again with a clean faceoff win from center
Josh Gibson as he pulled it back to
defenseman Kris Lang who gave a superb shot
from the point past goaltender Mike Olsen at
11:41 in the first period. Only 44
seconds later, Dave Reaser received the
perfect pass from Leon Hill as he took a
quick wrist shot that he buried into the
back of the net. The Jokers were
feeling the pressure but took the game over
as they pressured goaltender Mike Norwood
with several scoring chances and were out
shooting the Stars going into the second
period. At the 10 minute mark,
defenseman Tom Yurchak made a pristine pass
to Field Huber that sent him on a
semi-breakaway but it was enough time for
him to get a clean shot into the net.
From a turnover at the point however, Mike
Sandt took control and passed across to Dave
Reaser who finished with a shot that got
passed Olsen with about 7 minutes remaining
in the third period. The Jokers came
right back and continued to pressure the
Stars forcing them to make several icing
situations that caused the Stars to take
long shifts. Mike Norwood remained
discipline to turn away all of the shots he
faced throughout most of the third period.
BJ Schnauffer took a high sticking penalty
making contact with a Joker forward which
caused a double minor penalty to be called
at the 5:36 mark. The Jokers struggled
as Stars defensemen Kris Lang, Kevin Miller,
Brian Stefanov, and Dave Reaser did a superb
job limiting shots and dumping the ball with
every opportunity they had. After a
time out was called with about 90 seconds
left in the game and the score 3-1 in favor
of the Stars, the Jokers pulled goaltender
Mike Olsen to bring out a 6th player.
It proved effective as Jarrod Funk, Jason
Birli, and Josh Gossler won the faceoff and
scored to bring the game within one goal at
1:01 in the third. With the
championship on the line, the Jokers could
not create a chance to score on goaltender
Mike Olsen. The Stars earned the game
5 win and the 2009 Fall League Championship.
This is their third championship (once
formerly as the Nordiques).
Congratulations to the Stars.

C
Division:
Ruckus Wins C Division Title
Game 3 action
saw both teams playing through
difficult conditions, but Ruckus
came away with a 3-1 victory to earn
the Unami Creek "C Division" Trophy
during their inaugural season.
Ruckus also set a C Division record
by going undefeated through
all three rounds of the playoffs as
they went 7-0. Anthony Riccio
kicked off the scoring for Hack
Attack with a backhander 12 seconds
into the game. Dave Foellner tied
it five minutes later when his slap
shot from half court skipped into
the net. Tim Bielawski scored the
eventual game winner on a goalmouth
scramble four minutes into the
second period. Josh Gibson all but
ended Hack Attack's hopes by scoring
his 5th goal of the playoffs with
6:35 remaining in the third period.
Bielawski was named Playoff MVP as
he totaled 6 goals, 6 assists and
was +14 in his 7 playoff games.
Congratulations to Team Ruckus for
winning their first championship!
